SANDPIPER 1st VICE-PRESIDENTS
Don and Ann Lee

The Bakersfield Fiesta proved to be a very enjoyable weekend of fun, fast dancing.   It was great to square up again with people we've met at past conventions and fiestas.  We hope to square up with them again at the State Convention here in San Diego in April 2015 and at the RIVCO Festival in Indio in November 2015.

The Sandpipers had six dancers in the Advanced Hall and two of us in the Plus hall.  In the Plus Hall, we had the opportunity to square up with the Palomar Association Presidents and club members from the Wranglers, Whirlaways, Ocean Wavers, and Grape Stompers. We also danced with folks from clubs all over California and from as far away as West Virginia and Maryland. All the dancers were
friendly, strong dancers.

With spring and summer vacation season coming up, it's a good time to look up square dance clubs in the cities and towns where you will be visiting around the country.  We've visited other clubs while on vacation, and it was fun. Our good friends from the Wrangler's went to a square dance in England, and really had a ball.  It's a great way to make new friends in the country wide Square Dance community.

SANDPIPER MARCH 2015 IRISH POTLUCK
By Christine Kiffmann

Seventeen Sandpipers and students had a wonderful time at the Irish potluck at Christine's house. The food was so delicious that every plate was licked clean. Not only did we have corn beef and cabbage, potatoes, fruit, two different kinds of soda bread, salad and vegetables, but we also had two delicious homemade desserts.

Of course there was plenty of Guinness beer and red or white wine available also. The next potluck will have a Mexican theme and will be on Thursday, May 21, 2015.  There will not be a potluck in April, since Christine was unable to find someone to host it. She will be unable to host it, since she will just have returned from a trip to Europe.

The meal was delicious, with Corned Beef and all the fixings! Karen and Deb introduced the desserts, a Trifle and Volcanoes, to both tables.  If you have never attended a Potluck, you are really missing out.  Come and join us at the next potluck on Thursday, May 21, 2015! Deb Gaarde

ST JAMES PARISH HALL FLOOR RENOVATION
By Larry Anderson

Editor's Note: This article is a reprint from the April 2013 Newsletter.

It has been just about a year since the Sandpipers invested more than 100 man-hours (and considerable dollars) to refinish the floor at St. James. Volunteers including Bob Dorney, Mike Harris, Fred Jackson, John Dowling, and Larry & Nancy Anderson worked for up to 10 hours a day for a solid week to scrape off years of accumulated wax and refinish the floor with a dancer-friendly finish in time for our Anniversary Dance last year. The result was rave notices!

Unfortunately, a year later, we continue to hear that dancers from other clubs are not coming to our dances “because of the floor.” We need everybody's help to spread the word. Our floor has been refinished, and now is great to dance on! If you hear anyone comment otherwise, please fill them in. Thanks!
