PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
I'm sure that many of you are confused and perhaps even alarmed by the change of venue or place that we will be dancing for our Anniversary Dance in March. I am also confused! The scheduler for the use of the Parrish Hall at St James Catholic Church was changed last fall. In November 2010 I sent the Sandpipers request for the use of the hall for the entire year of 2011. I didn't get a response from the new scheduler in spite of the fact that I had called and left messages on his telephone and also e-mailed him several times. The first time that I became aware that there was a problem was when we all showed up for our February dance. We found that the hall was already occupied. Fortunately, the church had a small hall available in an adjacent building. However, it was much smaller and had a carpet floor. Most of the attendees to our dance were flexible enough that we were able to have our dance there. Luckily, we only had five squares attending which was the capacity of the room. The new scheduler was present at the church that evening. I said that we had to have a meeting the next week (of course I had already requested a meeting several times via telephone and e-mail previously). The following Thursday, he broke the bad news to me. The previous scheduler had scheduled church activities for the Parish Hall on our dance night in the months of February, March, May, June, August and September. That left us with only July, October and December that we are scheduled for the Parish Hall. Obviously, I was shocked. This left us with a great deal of work to accomplish in a very short time. The flyers and Palostar already had us listed for March, April and May as dancing at the Parish Hall. To make it worse, our March dance is our Anniversary Dance, and letters of invitations had also been sent out to all of our past presidents. They would all have to be contacted again in addition to the caller, cuer, all the clubs in the PSDA, the PSDA Webmaster and the San Diego clubs about the change. Amid much frantic searching, we did find that we could have our March dance at the Carlsbad Senior Center. Now we are left with the task of finding a location for the remainder of our “to be placed” dances. However, we have decided to try to find a new, more accommodating permanent location. I sent by e-mail a list of possible places to have our dance. However, I would like to concentrate on community centers, senior centers and schools that are looking for organizations to occupy their rooms. Churches, of course have their first obligation to their congregation. Any help that you can give to help us solve this grave problem will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know of any possible places that you know that are out there or if you know of information pertaining to the places on my e-mailed list. Together we will succeed.
On a lighter vein, I have just initiated a Sandpiper Bulletin Board where our members can submit articles or information that might be helpful to our fellow Sandpipers. A small review committee has been set up and we have already received items for the Bulletin Board. I will be interested in your response to the Bulletin Board.
Also, remember we will be dark during the month of April for the State Convention which will be held in San Diego. Tickets are now available. Information can be found on Google at “51st California Square Dance Convention”.

PSDA 62ND ANNIVERSARY DANCE
On Saturday, January, 29, 2011 the PSDA hosted their “All Aboard” 62nd Anniversary dance at the Poway Community Center with Jet Roberts calling and Shauna Kaaria cueing. The dance was a huge success with over 20 squares in attendance. The evening's theme “All Aboard” was represented by an 18 foot cardboard ship, the “USS Palostar” which was constructed by the decorating committee and placed on the stage. The grand prize from the ticket raffle was a Caribbean cruise for two. Other prizes were a 27 inch television, a Sony alarm clock docking station and four tickets to the California Center for the Arts Symphony tickets.

PROPOSED SANDPIPER BYLAW REVISION
The following proposed revision to the Sandpiper Bylaw's will be voted on at the General Meeting in June 2011. The proposed revision is to delete the following restriction on allowing Sandpiper members who are also board members of another Mainstream/Plus affiliate to be members of the Sandpiper board. Long ago the local square dance clubs were very competitive and did not want the details of club business to be discussed with other clubs. However, in today's square community, the clubs share information and ideas and work together for the betterment of square dancing. Therefore, if we have Sandpipers who want to be on the Sandpiper's board there should be no restrictions on their not serving if they are a member of another square dance club board.
The revision is to delete Article IV Membership , Section 5.
Section 5. Any Sandpiper member who is a board member of another Mainstream/Plus affiliate will not be considered for a position on the Sandpipers Board of Directors
NONINATING COMMITTEE FOR 2011-2012
This year's nominating committee consists of Debby Gaarde, Nanette Caldararo and Fred Jackson. They will be contacting club members to become members of the Sandpiper board, either as officers or as committee chairs. Please let them know if you want to be considered for a particular position. They will be looking at newer members to bring in new ideas and enthusiasm to the board. Please consider taking on this responsibility. Although it does take some of your time, the rewards you receive by being a leader in the club make it worthwhile.

SANDPIPER SQUARE DANCE CLASS REPORT
By Renny Dowling
Each week we have about four squares, a mixture of angels and students. On Thursday, March 10, 2011 we will start the 2nd session of classes. These students are learning fast and will be ready to attend their first student level dance on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at YMCA in Escondido. I will send out a reminder closer to the date. We would like lots and lots of Sandpipers come to that dance in a show of support for our students. Creating a feeling of belonging, ensures that the students will continue with the classes.

The recycled clothing sale on Thursday, February 24, 2011, was a huge success. The students were very enthusiastic buyers. They will have an opportunity to wear the “new” outfits to the last class of this session on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Sandpipers please wear square dance attire. Instead of a teaching class, this is going to be a “dance” and ALL OF THE SANDPIPERS ARE INVITED. It starts at 7 PM. This is wonderful opportunity to meet the students. This will also be the night for the students to sign up for the next session. See you in a square!
FEBURARY GAME NIGHT
About 24 Sandpipers attended the first GAME NIGHT of this year. It was great success! Thank you Sandy and Mike Harris for hosting. We played UNO, SEQUENCE, and MEXICAN TRAIN. The snacks were bountiful and delicious. It always makes for a wonderful relaxing evening.
MARCH GAME NIGHT
On Monday, March 7, 2011 at 7 PM Doris and Karion Fitzpatrick will host game night which will again be at the Harris's Club House, 6750 Paseo del Norte, Carlsbad. Game night is always the first Monday of the month. March 7, 2011 at 7pm
MARCH BOARD MEETING
The Board Meeting will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 7 PM at the home of Carol and Ray Ellestad, 2076 Sequoia Crest, Vista, CA 92081. Please call Carol or Ray at 760-598-9803 if you plan to attend or need directions. All Sandpipers are encouraged to attend the board meetings.
