PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
I hope that you all had a great New Year's evening, and will have a very good year in 2010. From all reports, everyone enjoyed the Sandpipers-Circulators New Year's Dance very much. We all owe a big hug and thanks to Jim and Catherine Bowen and to Larry and Nancy Anderson for all the work they did to make it a very enjoyable way to bring in the New Year. Gary Shoemake and Rey Garza did a bang up job of keeping the revelers jumping all evening. Mark your calendars for next years New Year's Dance with Johnny Preston, another international caller and Rey Garza, our ever popular cuer, making the evening memorable.
We had a phenomenal turn out of club members at our student dance with the Ocean Wavers on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Forty-five Sandpipers showed up to angel the 20 students that attended. At one time we had eight squares on the floor, equal to some of our regular dances. The class has advanced enough now that everyone can enjoy a good Mainstream dance with the class members. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and the angels were greatly appreciated. If you haven't yet attended our student class, now would be a good time to join us, especially if you haven't been dancing much lately. If you feel that you are in need of a brush-up on your dancing, sign up for the class now, they are just starting to learn plus calls. By signing up, you will be assured of a place on the floor. Some of our members have already signed up for the class. It's a good way to get back into the swing of things. Also, if you know of a previous dancer that might be interested in returning to Square Dancing, invite them to join the class now. That's the way Joan and I returned to square dancing several years ago.
Be sure that you don't miss the PSDA's Anniversary dance on January 30, 2010. Tony Oxendine, another internationally known caller, will be calling with Shirley Ivins cueing. The Sandpipers are hosting this dance, so bring finger food. The PSDA will be furnishing a cake. If the dance is successful, the PSDA will continue scheduling dances with well-known callers.
Again wishing you all a great 2010!
Chuck and Joan Ades
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

On Thursday, December 31, 2009, the Sandpiper Square Dance Club, in conjunction with the Circulator Square Dance Club, put on the dance of the year with almost 20 squares in attendance. International caller Gary Shoemake and our own cuer extraordinaire Rey Garza, put on a show to ring in the New Year. President's Joan Ades (Chuck was out with a bad back) of the Sandpipers and Dick and Kathleen Hoot of the Circulators welcomed everyone to the dance and introduced Gary and Rey. A special thanks to Jim and Catherine Bowen who Chaired the New Year's Eve Dance Committee and Nancy and Larry Anderson the Sandpipers Hospitality Chairs for all their work in organizing and set up, food and refreshment preparation, decoration and put away efforts. It was a wonderful way to kick-off the New Year. Chuck Ades has announced that this year's Sandpiper New Year's Eve Dance will be called by the great Johnny Preston. Cueing will be the wonderful Rey Garza. You won't want to miss this dance.

SANDPIPER & OCEAN WAVER COMBINED SQUARE DANCE CLASS
While new carpet was being installed in the Sandpiper Square Dance Classroom at the Encinitas Community Center on Thursday, January 7, 2010, the Ocean Wavers and Sandpipers combined their classes into one big class at the Vista Townsite Center, Vista, CA. Callers Ray Holmes and Jim Randall provided entertaining calling while Regina Aubrey cued a Round between square dance tips. Eight squares were on the crowded floor most of the night. It was a real treat for the Sandpiper students to see some Rounds being cued. The Ocean Wavers routinely have Rounds cued between the square dance class tips. Pictured above are callers Jim Randall and Ray Holmes enjoying a close moment of Round Dancing (which one is the girl?).
