PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
I want to thank the 21 Sandpipers that attended the Indio Dance Festival. We didn't reach the 24 club members necessary to get a $100 check from the festival, maybe next year. However, a great time was had by all. So often we have such a short time to mix with our fellow Sandpipers. A festival like this allows us to eat and talk together for four days. We are also able to meet & mix with dancers from all over. The callers and cuers were all outstanding.
The next opportunity to mix with other Sandpipers will be at our general meeting on the 12 th of December. Remember that we are having a potluck dinner after the meeting. The meeting will start at 5 PM. The potluck will start at 5:45 PM with round dancing starting at 7 PM. Be sure to let the Andersons know what type of dish you are bringing. Their phone number is 858-674-6886. Their e-mail is larrya1994@aol.com. It is requested that you also bring Christmas cookies for the dance. We are inviting the class members to attend the potluck. They are a great and enthusiastic group of people. We think they are great new dancers and Jim Randal, their instructor, has expressed the same feelings. We are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic group of people. The first couple of squares will be at their level of dance. Mix in with them. Make a special effort to make them feel welcome.
Speaking of the class, they have completed their 1st 8-week session and have started their 2nd 8-week session. We have 29 students signed up. The club has been supporting the class well, providing as many angels as we have students, sometimes more. The class is outstanding, filled with excited and enthused people. At break time, the room is abuzz with talking.
We still have room for about 25 more couples at our New Year's Eve Dance. One of the nice things about this party is that it's over at 12 midnight. We always enjoy it more than any other New Year's Party that we have ever attended. We also have a great international caller, Gary Shoemake, and cuer Rey Garza. The price is a bargain at $19 each. This includes “heavy” hors d'oeuvres and dancing. Pre-rounds start at 8 PM with squares at 8:30 PM.
Happy Dancing
Chuck & Joan Ades

CLASS MANAGERS
Isana and Jerry
Our next class is December 3rd at the regular time. We plan to have some more clothing for sale and will be setting up around 6 pm. There were 14 angels or students at the Wrangler dance on November 20. You have to go to these dances and get the practice with different dancers and callers.
On December 12th the Sandpiper Square Dance Club invites all of the students to attend a potluck dinner at 5:45 PM followed by the monthly dance. The first tip will be called at student level. If you can, bring an unwrapped toy for the annual St James Toy Drive. Location is at St James Parish Hall, 625 Nardo Ave. Solana Beach. Come for all or part.
Renny Dowling is coordinating the potluck dishes and asks you contact her at jdow1243@aol.com or 760-721-9745.
On December 13th we start the monthly second-Sunday, student, class-level dances at Lake San Marcos Pavilion room at 7:00 PM. This one will also include an experienced dance clothing sale. There will be some really good bargains on the clothes racks, so get there early.

1st VICE-PRESIDENTS' REPORT
Renny and John Dowling
December 2009 General Meeting
All Sandpipers are invited to attend the December General Meeting on December 12, at 5 PM. We have two General Meetings per year when we encourage ALL Sandpipers to attend. There will be a short board meeting at 5 PM followed by a potluck dinner at 5:45 PM. We are inviting the class members to the potluck and the dance. There will be some class level tips. Angels do your best to invite the class members to attend the dinner and the dance. RSVP by contacting Renny Dowling at 760-721-9745 or e-mail jdow1243@aol.com to sign up for the potluck - salad, side dish ( pasta, rice, veggie, etc.), or main dish. Your dish needs to be fully cooked as we have trouble operating the ovens. No dessert! We are requesting that everybody bring a plate of Holiday cookies (homemade if you can) and an unwrapped toy to the dance.
Game Night
Our December Game Night will be at Kathy Knight's home on Monday, December 7, at 7 PM. Game nights are always on the FIRST MONDAY of the month. Please call Kathy at 760-632-0985 or e-mail catalinakathy@yahoo.com to let her know that you will be there.
Cans
John is collecting cans at the Thursday night class. The money will go into the General Fund. So bring your cans and bottles when you angel at the Thursday night class.
Poinsettia Sale
Please pick up your Poinsettia order at the Ade's on Saturday, December 5th. We made about $126 on this fundraiser. What a beautiful way to make money.
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES to Sandpipers Robin Boyd and Michael Goldbeck who were married in September 2009. The Sandpipers wish you many happy years together!
NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY
Jim and Catherine Bowen
Sandpipers are again having our very successful New Year's Eve Party on Thursday, December 31st. This year we are co-sponsoring the dance with the Circulators. The donation is $19/person or $38/ couple. As we did last year, pre-rounds will begin at 8:00 PM and squares from 8:30 PM until midnight. The heavy hors d'oeuvres were a real success last year, so we will do that again. There will be an A-1 tip at 10:00 PM and an A-2 tip at 11:00 PM. We will welcome in the New Year with our usual toast. This year we have an international caller, Gary Shoemake, and Rey Garza cueing.
Please make your reservation early! Jim has copies of the reservation flyer. The flyers will also be available at our classes and our dances. Pick one up, fill it out, and get it to Jim ASAP. With the Circulators also selling tickets to the San Diego clubs, we will sell out quickly. We, naturally, need to limit the number of tickets available and want to make sure all our Sandpipers can attend.
Larry and Nancy Anderson will be contacting you closer to the event to help with crock pots, some food, kitchen help and assistance with cleaning up and closing down at the end of the dance. Circulators will also be participating in bringing food, kitchen help and closing down.
Let's make this the best dance of the year!
INDIO SQUARE DANCE FESTIVAL 2009
Presidents Chuck and Joan Ades hosted a barbecue potluck this year at their timeshare at the Indio Festival. There were 21 Sandpipers attending the festival this year, and a great time was had by all. Master Barbecue Chef Frank Violi grilled the hamburgers. Over 1100 dancers attended this years' festival.
