PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
At the Sandpiper General Meeting held on Sunday, June 27, 2010, Sandpiper Officers for the year 2010-2011 were elected and Sandpiper Committee Chairmen and women for the year 2010-2011 were appointed to the club's new Board of Directors. The Presidents of the Palomar Square Dance Association, Chuck and Judy Bagwell performed the installation of officers and appointment of committee chairs. Chuck did a great job of emphasizing the strong position of the club both financially and in the number members. He stated that the Sandpipers Square Dance Club is admired by the other PSDA clubs. All Sandpipers should feel proud of these facts.
The new officers and committee chairs are listed elsewhere in this Newsletter. There are many old faces, but also some new ones. I very much appreciate the help that the outgoing Board Members and Committee Chairs have given the club and to me over the last year. The club would not be in the positive position it is today without their willing help. As a second term (old face) President, I'd like to welcome the new Board & Committee Chairs to their new or resumed positions to serve the club and its members. The club would cease to exist without people like them who are willing to give their time and effort for the benefit of the club as a whole. There are a couple of positions that are still available. There are also very important positions, the 1st Vice Presidents and the 2nd Vice Presidents position are still open. The club's advancement and continued well-being will be seriously hampered if these positions are not filled soon. The club is in a very positive position now, both financially and membership numbers. We have a lot of real talent in our club. We just need the opportunity of allowing this talent to express itself for the club. It would be a great shame to lose the great forward momentum the club is presently showing for the lack of people willing to step forward to fill these positions. The club almost had to disband seven years ago when no one was willing to step forward into the position of President. Finally, new members Fred and Patti Jackson, with only one year as members of the club, agreed to assume the position of Presidents of the Sandpipers. It was a brave move for this new couple to assume those responsibilities. Before they agreed to assume the President position, it became so serious; that I really thought the club would disband. I was even considering which other club I would join. The Jacksons saved the day and served as Sandpiper Presidents for a record four years, and the club has been on a strongly improving position ever since. I envision an ever-improving Sandpiper Club in the future. Let's not lose this opportunity now.
Your Presidents,
Chuck & Joan Ades

Our hosts Chuck and Joan served ice cream sundaes for all. Thank you Chuck and Joan for hosting the meeting and providing the sundaes and thank you for being our presidents for 2010-2011.
GAME NIGHT
On June 7, 2010, 16 Sandpipers attended Game Night hosted by Ann Fleming. Ann provided a wide array of food and drink and a great time was had by all playing “UNO”. Once again Jerry Mendelson was the big prize winner with over 671 points with Renny Dowling receiving the prize for the least points. She actually had zero points to take the prize. It was another fun night.

SQUARE DANCING AT THE FAIR 2010

On Sunday, June 13, 2010 over 140 San Diego County Square Dancers entertained the public at the San Diego County Fair (Del Mar Fair). The dancing began at 10 AM and continued throughout the day. KFMB, Channel 8 covered the dancing and with two great video spots on the evening news that eventually made it to You Tube. The videos featured Sandpipers Dot and Gilbert Omens (pictured above) in one sequence and Fred and Patti Jackson in the background in the other sequence. Various dancers were interviewed. The only flaw in the commentary was that the dancers were referred to as “professional square dancers”. But overall, it was great coverage promoting square dancing. This is a square dancing event that happens every year. If you want to participate next year, be on the lookout for the sign-up sheets in April or May 2011. It is great fun. If you are selected, you are given a time to dance an hour during the day at the Fair. There is square dancing and round dancing, just like at a regular dance. The dancing is on a wood floor under a shade canopy. The only requirement is that you wear square dance attire. Pictured above are Sandpipers Loretta Martinez and Debby Gaarde, and to the left is Patti with a turkey leg. You are considered a fair entertainer and receive a packet for free parking in the Green Lot in the back and free admission to the fair. You enter through the Solana Beach Gate and check in at the entertainer trailer. After and/or before dancing you have free time at the Fair to visit exhibits and have lunch.
