PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
Most of us experienced a great 37th Anniversary dance. Mike Seastrom did an excellent job of calling and of course Rey Garza did his usual great job of cueing the rounds. We had 119 dancers in attendance. We had a surprise attendee among our past presidents, Barbara Palembas. She and her husband (deceased) were presidents of the Sandpipers in 1981 and 1982. She was very excited about attending. Many of our members exchanged greetings and stories. She now lives in Escondido and was so enthused about attending the dance that she is considering returning to square dancing.
Another surprise that happened was we were presented the PSDA “Lighthouse” by the Double SD's. The rules are that when a club receives it from another club, it must display it at their dances for at least one month. In order to pass it on we will have to visit another club with at least two squares from the Sandpipers. You will be hearing more about this after we have selected the club to “bestow” the “Lighthouse” upon.
Another surprise at the dance was when 12 Canyon Lake Twirlers Club dancers visited us. They earned one of our banners. We are planning on making their May 2, 2010 dance a visitation to recover our banner. David and Dawn Mee will be calling and cueing. It should be a good dance. They alternate mainstream with plus calls so it should be a good dance for our class to attend. Their dance is on Sunday with rounds at 1:30 PM and squares from 2:30 to 5 PM. You will be hearing more of the particulars on this later.
Also, remember that we will be moving our 38th Anniversary dance to March next year since the State Convention will be held in San Diego. I'm sure most of the Sandpipers will want to go to this convention since it's so close.
The Sandpipers General Meeting will be at the Ades' garden on June 27, 2010. Our address is 1041 Passiflora Place in Leucadia. All Sandpipers are encouraged to attend. It will give all our present members a chance to meet our new members who will have just graduated from the class in May. This has been a very vibrant class with many members being very excited to be a part of our club. Be sure to welcome them all and show them our true Sandpiper Square Dance hospitality.

SANDPIPER 37TH ANNIVERSARY DANCE
Jerry Mendelson and Isana Seidcheck
Saturday, April 10, 2010 the Sandpipers had 13 squares with caller Mike Seastrom and cuer Rey Garza for their 37th Anniversary Dance. We even had some students come, and we all showed up on youtube. The dance was great and all had a good time. Dancers came from Canyon Lake, and San Diego as well as all of the PSDA clubs. The Double SD's Presidents' Kathy and Gene Bell presented the Traveling Lighthouse to the Sandpipers so look out next month. Sunday we danced on the wood floors at Canyon Lake. There were eight squares and 15 dancers from the PSDA. Pictured above are past Sandpiper presidents, from right to left, Catherine and Jim Bowen 2001-2003, Sandy and Mike Harris 2007-2009, Miriam and Stan Snitkin 1993-1994, and Barbara Palembas 1980-1981.
RIDING FOR THE CURE
What a surprise when Mike Harris and Fred Brown ran into each other at the Riding for the Cure, a diabetes bike ride to raise money for the cure of diabetes. Pictured left to right are Sandpiper Mike Harris, Whirlaway Bill Gaarde, our own Sandpiper student Deb Gaarde and Sandpiper student Fred Brown. Both Mike and Fred are in red riding outfits to signify they both have diabetes and Bill and Deb are riding in support of the cause. Mike rode 30 miles, Fred rode 70 miles and Bill and Deb rode an incredible 100 miles. Way to go guys!

Caller: Rick Hampton
Cuer: Peter Gomez
Greeters: Peggy and Sid Mayo
Hosts: Karen and Bob Dorney and Marilyn and Vince Pileggi
SECOND VICE-PRESIDENTS
Jerry Mendelson and Isana Seidcheck
We picked up one more student with Sandpiper Beth Abramson-Beck signing up for a guaranteed spot on the dance floor. This makes a total of 28 students. We only have five more lessons. Some regulars from class attended the Sandpiper's 37th Anniversary Dance last Saturday and had a ball, laughing and joining in all the fun. They said there is a big difference in speed between a dance and the class. We are making applications to join the Sandpipers available and we have given out instructions on how to sign up. We intend to invite all of the students who came in September 2009 to come to the graduation on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 7 PM. All Sandpipers are invited as well. Please RSVP to us at 760-436-7718.
